What Is a Wart?

Warts that form on the body are lesions raised from the skin caused by the HPV virus. Because they are small at first, they are not noticed by most people or are confused with a skin tag. However, when they start to grow and multiply, it becomes clear that the situation is not a simple skin tag.

Warts that form in the genital area are called condylomas. When these lesions are neglected, they multiply, spread and become more difficult to treat. For this reason, early intervention is important.

What Is Wart Burning?

The procedure popularly known as wart burning is the controlled destruction of the wart tissue using electricity, laser or radio waves.

In the classic wart burning procedure done with the electrocautery method, an electric current is used. The smoke and smell that arise during the procedure show that the tissue is indeed being burned.

Wart Removal (Excision)

In stalked warts and condylomas, the wart removal method can be applied. In this method, the lesion is cut out from its root. Bleeding control is provided with cautery or sutures.

Wart Freezing (Cryotherapy)

The wart freezing procedure is done using liquid nitrogen. The frozen tissue decays and falls off over time. However, more than one session may be needed, and the recurrence rate is no different from other methods.

Wart Burning with a Fractional Laser

Today, the most advantageous method of wart burning is the fractional carbon dioxide laser. The laser destroys the wart tissue by vaporizing it. It is more controlled than electrocautery and affects the surrounding healthy tissue less.

Because of less scarring, less colour change and a lower recurrence rate, we prefer the fractional laser for wart burning in our treatment practice.

The aim in wart treatment is not only to destroy the visible lesion, but also to minimize the risk of recurrence by reducing the viral load.
